Kamala Harris' VP pick calls out JD Vance
In brief:
- Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 presidential election, bringing energy to the Democratic campaign.
- Donald Trump appears annoyed at the shift, reverting to personal attacks and making unlikely claims about Biden crashing the Democratic convention to reclaim the nomination.
- The Trump campaign is struggling to find an effective strategy against the Harris-Walz ticket.
It’s official, Kamala Harris has announced Tim Walz as her running mate.
A veteran and former teacher, the Minnesota Governor is largely unknown in America, but has gained appeal for his folksy, relaxed personality.
He also gained a lot of attention for repeatedly referring to Trump and the former president’s running mate, JD Vance, as “weird” and “creepy”, something Emily and Jon have noticed he does without anger, but with a mischievous undertone - and it has resonated.
"These guys are creepy and yes, just weird as hell!"

How has Donald Trump responded to the Walz announcement?
“He's annoyed. He's really cross,” says Emily on today’s episode of The News Agents.
The energy and ‘joy’ Harris, and now Walz, have pumped back into the Democrat’s campaign is something that hasn’t been seen since the 2008 Obama run.
So much so, that Trump may be wishing his former opponent was back in the race now he’s faced with the alternative.
Trump posted on his social media site, Truth Social, rambling that Biden’s presidency was “Unconstitutionally STOLEN” from him and that he may crash the Democratic convention later this month in an attempt to take back the nomination.
What are the chances that Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST President in the history of the U.S., whose Presidency was Unconstitutionally STOLEN from him by Kamabla, Barrack HUSSEIN Obama, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Shifty Adam Schiff, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, and others on the Lunatic Left,…

“He sounds like a sort of Scooby Doo villain in a suit of armour who's had the helmet ripped off and says, if it wasn't for those pesky kids, I might have gotten away with it,” Emily jokes.
“I think what Donald Trump is trying to say in that tweet is, please, Joe Biden, come back in and let me fight you and not have to fight Kamala Harris” Jon says.
While Trump may be stuck on Biden making a return, the chances of it happening are “literally zero”, according to Emily.
And so, the Trump team needs to start working on their approach to the Harris-Walz ticket.
What will the Republican campaign against a Harris-Walz ticket look like?
“They're throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what insult sticks” Emily says.
Trump doesn’t appear to have quite found his line of attack when it comes to Harris and Walz.
Last week he received huge backlash after his comment that she “became black” at a convention for black journalists, now he’s reverted back to his old ways of trying to disparage her, referring to her in his social posts as “Kambala.”
Jon thinks the team around Trump will be encouraging him to stop the “playground insults and personal attacks” and “focus on policy”.
“Focus on where the Democrats are vulnerable. Focus on the southern border, focus on what's happened on the stock market, focus on these issues that Americans care about.”
Trump had, Emily suggests, started to reign in his insults and focus on a more “somber” campaign, noting that the Republican convention was ran “effectively” and “tightly”.
“Donald Trump at that time was really listening to his key people, Susie Wiles, Chris LaCivita, Stephen Cheung, you know, we saw all these guys. They were very visible.”
“I feel that since the whole shift, he's kind of stopped listening to them”.
It’s unlikely Trump will revert to a calmer approach as the campaign heightens and election day draws closer.
The announcement of Walz may even give Trump fresh ammo, although it’s anyone's guess as to what insults he’ll come up with.
“I don't doubt they will come up with something,” says Emily.
“They will find dirty secrets in everyone's past.
70% of Americans have no idea who he [Walz] is. So there is plenty of opportunity for Trump to either discover or, dare I say, create, disseminate, share, falsify stuff about a man, if they want to try and make out that he is a disreputable character.”
